Wedding Footwear Trends

On your wedding day, the wedding dress itself is the real showstopper. But what’s a dress without the perfect pair of kicks? Let’s take a look at some wedding footwear trends for this year and beyond, so you can select a pair that coordinates with the dress and makes a statement at the same time.

Slingbacks

Slingbacks are a classic, and perfect for the bride who wants a combination of elegant toe coverage and breathability. We hear that Christian Louboutin has a pair of pointy, studded slingbacks in wedding white.

Floral-Printed or Embroidered

If you’re looking for a pair of shoes that reflect an easygoing, boho-chic style or a whimsical garden feel, you’re in good company! Wedding shoes featuring fanciful floral prints or floral embroidery have been increasingly popular of late. If you don’t believe us, just ask Manolo Blahnik.

Shoes with Bows

Bows and brooch details are definitely making a comeback! Look for bows with a unique twist, a bit of extra flair by way of glittery stones, or some subtle ruching. Kitten heels or higher styles look especially good with a pretty bow.

The bows don’t have to be on the front, either! A large bow on the outer side of an ankle strap lends a flirty, dramatic look to your wedding footwear.

Metallics

We’re seeing more and more metallics all over the wedding circuit, not only in decor but in shoes as well. Shiny champagne, bronze, brass, gold, silver, and rose gold are all in the mix, but look for metallic finishes in other hues as well, such as vivid blue, elegant pink, or brilliant green.

Two Tones

Some designers are crafting heels with a two-toned look that’s especially fetching when blended into a wedding color palette. A pair of Kate Spades with kitten heels and various two-tone options caught our eye!

Low Heels

What if you just can’t handle the height? Flats or low heels are a perfectly acceptable option, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

You can rock your wedding day in comfort wearing a pair of Betsey Johnson evening flats, pointed, with a closed toe and a gorgeous lacy cut-out pattern, decorated all over with rhinestones. Or you can try the mesh-and-metallic pointed-toe lovelies from Adrianna Papell. Jimmy Choo also offers a twin-toned option that offers flat comfort and an on-point metallic sheen.

Embellished Heels

Who says the embellishments have to be on the toes of your shoes? There’s a growing trend that celebrates the heels of your shoes, from the bottom to the top. Harriet Wilde put out a light gray pair with lovely leaves and flowers climbing the backs of the heels.

Lace and Velvet

Soft velvets and luxurious lace are both popular in wedding footwear right now. Indulge your feet with these finely crafted beauties. Shoes with lace panels or with uppers entirely of lace can offer a little extra breathability for brides who are interested in that feature.
