Cute Ways to Entertain Children at Weddings

Cute Ways to Entertain Children at Weddings

Some couples choose not to include children at their weddings, but others consider it part of the fun! If you’re planning to host not only the grownups but the young ones too, you’ll need to provide a few options to help parents keep those busy little minds occupied. Discover cute ways to entertain children at weddings and keep the occasion joyful for everyone.

Printable Packets

If you’re hosting a sit-down reception, consider putting together some packets for the kids. Include coloring pages, printable mazes, and tic-tac-toe boards, fill-in-the-blank stories, and of course, crayons. Word searches, jumbles, coded messages and more will keep little hands occupied.

Lego Table

Offer a Lego table where kids can build whatever they imagine; or provide direction for their creativity by giving them a “building challenge.” Perhaps they could build a “dream house” that goes along with the wedding theme, or a Lego cake, or a tower a specific number of layers high.

Butcher Paper and Crayons

Are you anticipating many children in attendance at the wedding? Skip the tablecloths and ask your decorator or caterer to layer the tables thickly with butcher paper. Provide crayons and pencils so the kids (and the grownups) can decorate the reception tables as they like.

Life-Sized Games

If you’re having the reception in a large outdoor space, the opportunities for entertainment are endless! Rent enormous, life-sized games like Connect Four, chess, checkers, and tic-tac-toe. Be sure that your venue approves the use and setup of any such games on the property.

Quiet Tent

Some children become overwhelmed by all the sights and sounds of the wedding. Consider providing a “quiet tent” with books, poufs, and blankets where little ones can snuggle in to calm down and find refuge from all the visual and auditory stimulation.

Paparazzi Crew

Provide children with disposable cameras and recruit them to take photos of everyone and everything at the reception. Or you could provide a scavenger-hunt-style list of things for the kids to find and photograph. They’ll stay busy, and their parents will be able to mingle and chat with each other.

Puzzles

Provide puzzles of all sizes, from wooden ones for toddlers to complex ones for older children. Kids will enjoy working together with each other and with adults to complete the puzzles. For an extra personal touch, custom-order puzzles featuring images of the bride and groom or the wedding logo.

Board Games and Card Games

Devote a table to games like Operation, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Hungry Hippos, Go Fish, and other popular games for younger children. Games like Apples to Apples, Taboo, Risk, Clue, SceneIt, and Monopoly will attract older kids and teens.

Crafts and DIY

Provide supplies and guidelines for DIY projects like make-your-own masks, hair accessories, jewelry, or paper wedding dresses. You can also provide paper “wedding cakes” and give the little ones various items with which to decorate their cardstock cakes. Keep it glue-free by substituting stickers or tape, and ensure that any markers or paints you provide are the washable kinds.
