Alternative Place Card Ideas

Alternative Place Card Ideas

If you want your wedding to stand out from the crowd and be especially memorable for your guests, you’ve got to change up the details. One detail that can have a big impact, not only on your table settings but on your guests, is the place cards that help your friends and family find their assigned spots at the reception. Consider some eye-catching alternative place card ideas and discover how a small detail can make a big difference in the overall uniqueness of your wedding.

Clear Acrylic Place Cards

Instead of using cardstock, go a step up with clear acrylic place cards, emblazoned with each guest’s name in a pretty font. These modern, elegant “cards” will not only help guests find their spots, but they will also serve as a nice little take-home gift, along with your wedding favors.

Wedding Favor Gift Boxes

Instead of putting all the favors on a table for guests to take, place one at each setting and let them double as place cards. Tiny gift boxes or trinket boxes work well for this purpose. Include a fresh flower, candy, mints, jewelry, or other small items inside the box, and put the guest’s name directly on the box or on a tag.

Tiny Succulent Plants as Place Cards

Succulents remain an adorable and popular gift, so feel free to use them as favors and place cards combined. Place a miniature succulent in a pot at each guest’s place, and attach a cute tag with the person’s name.

Beach-Themed Place Cards

If you’re having a beach-themed wedding, why not use large shells in lieu of place cards? You can have an artistic friend write the guests’ names on the shells in calligraphy, or you can attach small tags. You could also substitute bits of driftwood or sailcloth instead of seashells.

Lemon Boat Place Cards

Are you having a summer wedding? Cut lemons in half, and in each half-lemon insert a thin stick with an attached triangular sail, cut from fun printed fabric that coordinates with your wedding colors. On the sail, write or attach the guest’s name. Your friends and family will be charmed by these adorable lemon-boat place cards.

Laser Cutout Place Cards

Like the acrylic cards, laser cutouts of your guests’ names serve as an enticing trinket for them to take home at the end of the reception. Depending on your budget, you can have the names cut from a variety of materials, including most types of metal, wood, acrylic, and more.

Cork Place Cards

Are you and your spouse-to-be fans of a good wine? Collect plenty of corks and use them as place card holders. All you need to make one is a cork, a toothpick, and a small cardstock name tag. You can dress up the bottom edge of each cork with rhinestones, beads, tiny shells, ribbon, or anything else you like, to ensure that the cork stands upright.
