First Steps to Take After Getting Engaged

First Steps to Take After Getting Engaged

Finding that truly special person you want to marry is life-changing. It doesn’t matter who asks whom— at some point you’ll both realize that you want to spend the rest of your lives together. Once the question is asked and answered, what do you do? Discover the first steps to take after getting engaged.

Take time to enjoy the moment.

It’s tempting to let your brain start running with possible wedding dates and wedding plans. Try to resist that urge, and just stay in the moment. Enjoy the delight of finding the love of your life, the person you want to partner with for the foreseeable future. Just be together, and relish the beauty of what just happened.

Get a manicure.

If you didn’t get a manicure before your significant other popped the question, go ahead and get one now! You’ll be showing off the ring for the next few weeks, and you want your nails to be clean, well-shaped, and photo-ready. And don’t forget to take that ring selfie!

Make it official on social media.

Speaking of selfies— it’s time to spread your happy news! Social media is a huge part of daily life for most people, and it’s an easy way to let everyone know that the two of you plan to tie the knot in the near future. After you call your closest family members and friends to let them know personally, broadcast your news via Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, or your other preferred social media network.

Plan your engagement party.

Whether it’s a quick get-together with friends for cocktails or a dinner with both sides of the family, your engagement party offers everyone a chance to celebrate your upcoming nuptials. Traditionally hosted by the bride’s parents, this party can happen a few weeks or a couple months after your actual engagement, before you get into the real wedding planning.

Pick a date.

Soon after the engagement, start thinking about potential wedding dates. Discuss some options with your spouse-to-be, and run a few choices by your friends and family members so they can let you know of any conflicts.

Reserve the venue.

Even if your wedding is many months away, go ahead and reserve the wedding venue. A beautiful venue like Nanina’s in the Park fills up its calendar quickly, so it’s vital to secure your spot. Go in to the process with a few different dates in mind, in case your first choice is already taken.

Get the ring insured.

Did your special someone spring for a pricey gem? Add an extension to an existing renter’s insurance or homeowner’s insurance policy to cover the cost of that fabulous rock, in case it ever gets lost. To prevent the accidental loss of your ring, go to a jeweler to get it adjusted if it’s too loose.

If you haven’t toured a wedding venue yet, come visit Nanina’s in the Park! Our beautiful grounds and fabulous indoor spaces are perfect for hosting a delightful garden wedding or the fairytale estate wedding you’ve always dreamed of. Contact us as soon as possible to schedule a tour.
