How to Manage Summer Heat in Formal Wedding Attire

How to Manage Summer Heat in Formal Wedding Attire

When you’re attending a formal summer wedding at a gorgeous venue, you want to be able to focus on the couple’s special day— not on the sweat oozing down your back. And if you’re the bride or groom, you want your guests to be comfortable so they’ll feel like celebrating with you. Discover some tips for how to manage summer heat in formal wedding attire.

Have the Reception Indoors

Perhaps you have your heart set on an outdoor garden wedding— and you should have what you’ve always dreamed of for your special day! After the ceremony, however, move the fun indoors to our magnificent ballroom

At Nanina’s in the Park, we do all our receptions indoors. It’s ideal for your guests’ comfort, for food safety and accessibility, and for providing the perfect lighting and music. With the right decor and floral arrangements, you can bring the outdoor theme into a climate-controlled space where everybody will be happier and more relaxed.

Bring a Portable Fan

Our rooms at Nanina’s in the Park are all air-conditioned, but you may be extra prone to sweat on your wedding day, due to nerves and excess energy. Have your groomsmen or bridesmaids bring along a small portable fan to give you that extra blast of cool, moving air when and where you need it the most.

Offer Fans or Parasols for Guests

If you’re having the ceremony outdoors, provide some attractive paper fans for your guests to use. Beautifully crafted fans can double as wedding favors, and your guests will appreciate having something handy to generate a light breeze. Parasols with your wedding logo on them may also do the trick, providing a little extra shade.

Provide Plenty of Cold Drinks

Even though your reception is happening indoors, you may be able to have cold drinks served outdoors before the ceremony. Talk with your wedding coordinator and your event contact at Nanina’s in the Park and explore the options for hydrating your guests before and during the ceremony. Even plastic bottles of cold water in barrels of ice can offer your guests a welcome reprieve from the summer heat.

Stock Up on Sweat Control

Everyone in the bridal party should have access to sweat-controlling provisions. Ensure that the groom, his guys, the bride, and her girls all have supplies such as tiny deodorant sticks, face blotters, body wipes, and sunscreen. Keep these items in handy baskets in the bridal suites and restrooms. You could even offer some face blotters in individual packets in the restroom that your guests will be using.

Dress in Breathable Fabrics

When you purchase your outfit for the occasion, whether you’re a member of the bridal party or a guest, be sure to purchase material that will be breathable. Fabrics like chambray, cotton, and linen are more porous and lightweight, and they absorb and release moisture more easily. Just be sure that you select a lighter hue that won’t show sweat spots as dramatically, and steer clear of vivid jewel tones. Polyester, rayon, and silk are notorious for showing sweat, so skip those fabrics altogether.

Other techniques can help you and your friends stay cool, including updos instead of flowing locks and open shoes rather than closed ones. Check with the experienced staff at Nanina’s in the Park to see if they have any additional wisdom about navigating the heat while enjoying a gorgeous summer wedding.
