Winter Wedding Photo Booth Ideas

Winter Wedding Photo Booth Ideas

Whether you want it to be fun and quirky or simple and classic, a photo booth is a great way to get everyone smiling at your winter wedding reception. As you plan your photo booth, remember to post an eye-catching sign nearby with the wedding hashtag! That way, you’ll be able to find all the fun pictures later. Check out these winter wedding photo booth ideas, including backdrops and props that you can use for your special day.

Elegant Backgrounds

If you’d like to keep the photo booth simple and elegant, arrange a backdrop of white tulle or sheers, or use material colored deep blue like the sky on a winter evening. You can dress up a clean white background in a number of ways— with strands of twinkle lights, boughs of evergreen, or Christmas ball ornaments hung at different heights. Pennants, tassels, or garlands in your wedding colors can add interest to the backdrop as well.

For a dark blue or green backdrop, introduce frosty elements like small white snowflakes or garlands of silver and white paper. If you’d like a natural element that’s not too rustic, a wall of unfinished wood festooned with greenery, flowers, or lights makes a lovely background for photos.

Look for additional inspiration from the fashion world or from your favorite home designers. For example, Raf Simons once created floral walls for a Christian Dior runway set, and the result was breathtaking. Copy or adapt the idea for a show-stopping photo booth background.

Classy Props

Near the photo booth, provide a stash of props for guests with which your guests can pose. Cozy hats and warm scarves work well with a snowflake-studded background. Large portrait frames of unfinished wood, gold, or silver, ornately carved, are also popular; just make sure that they aren’t too heavy for your guests to hold up while they’re getting their photo taken. Little chalkboard signs that say “Cheers!” or “Best Wedding Ever” or “Congratulations!” also maintain the elegance of the wedding while leaving room for fun.

Fun Backdrops

Why not have a little festive fun with the photo booth backdrops? It’s a holiday wedding, after all! Feature the snowy North Pole, with a rich blue backdrop, dozens of white snowflakes, and a  signpost. A sugarplum theme could include a candy-striped background with oversized lollipops. Or go big and create a miniature Winter Wonderland complete with a snowy archway under which your guests can pose.

Quirky Accessories

Photo booths are all about letting your guests showcase their personalities. For a holiday twist, include accessories like Santa hats, scarves, tall top hats, and pointy elf ears. You could also include themed elements like Sugarplum fairy wings, cardboard candy props to hold, Santa’s gift sack, elf toy-crafting tools, or snowflake wands.

If you really want your guests to get into the fun of dressing up for the photos, include other costume elements. A pair of steampunk-style elf goggles, a Santa beard, and some reindeer antlers could do the trick.

Teamwork and Planning

To keep the burden of the planning off your shoulders, task one of your wedding party members with collecting or creating the props and accessories for the photo booth, and communicate clearly with your photographer about what you want. With your friends to help you, you’ll be able to enjoy those photo memories for years to come.
