Spring Wedding Dos and Don’ts

Spring Wedding Dos and Don’ts

Warm sun, fresh grass, flowering bushes and trees, breezy air— there’s a reason why spring is such a popular season for weddings. If you plan to have your special day in March, April, or May, you’re in good company; but you may also face some unique challenges that go along with the season. So before you say “I do,” check out these dos and don’ts for a spring wedding.

Do remember the grass.

Your wedding photos will probably take place outdoors, in nature, so remember to select colors that pair well with the vivid green of spring growth. Also, keep in mind that rain might make the ground damp, so wear some cute rain boots under the wedding gown for the photos and keep that train out of the mud.

Don’t count on the weather to cooperate.

Spring is notorious for unexpected showers. If you’re planning on having any part of the ceremony or reception outdoors, have a backup plan in place. Select a venue that offers stunning indoor spaces, gazebos, stylish tents, or covered areas that will serve if the beautifully manicured grounds are being doused with spring rain.

Do plan for seasonal flowers.

One of the best things about having a spring wedding is the number of flowers that are naturally in bloom around this time. You’ll have your pick of gorgeous blooms to grace your reception tables, bouquets, and other arrangements. Plus, if you choose seasonal flowers, they’ll be less expensive than blooms which are out of season during the spring. Talk to your florist about which spring flowers might work best with your theme.

Don’t wait until the last minute.

Did we mention that spring is a popular time for weddings? Many couples in the area are going to be planning their weddings for those fine spring weekends, so don’t wait to reserve space at your favorite venue. In fact, you should contact your venue, wedding planner, florist, caterer, and others months right away, as soon as you set the date. That way, your special day will be on the calendar well in advance.

Do embrace the elements of spring.

Are you looking for a unique wedding favor? Why not give your guests tiny containers of spring bulbs or cute planters with sprigs of spices or herbs? They’ll have something to plant in their own garden and enjoy for weeks or months; plus, they’ll think of you and your new spouse when they see the bulb growing or taste the fresh herbs sprinkled on their salad.

Don’t forget your bridal party’s comfort.

Spring can be warm and sunny, or it can be damp and chilly. Strategize for any weather by incorporating layers in your bridal party’s outfits—tuxedo jackets or snazzy blazers for the guys, light wraps or modern Boleros for the girls. They can ditch the second layer if it’s hot or keeps it on in the case of chilly weather.
