5 Elegant Ways to Use Pumpkins at a Fall Wedding

We’re in the thick of the fall wedding season, and if you’re planning an autumn wedding in the coming year or further down the line, now is the perfect time to take note of the many seasonal wedding trends that are popping up during this time of year. However, if there is one accent that screams fall more than autumn leaves or apple cider is the pumpkin, which has far more decorative potential in a wedding setting that we give it credit for. Instead of leaving this gourd reserved for Halloween, incorporate it into your autumn festivities! Here are a few of our favorite pumpkin decorating ideas that we’ve seen at Nanina’s in the Park.

  1. Aisle Decor

First and foremost, one of the easiest ways to incorporate pumpkins into your fall wedding is to adorn the aisle of the ceremony with a variety of colorful gourds. Opt for pumpkins in varying sizes and colors to avoid making the arrangement look too put together. These pumpkins can be kept as is and surrounded with smaller gourds and decorative accents, or aim to hollow them out, place a candle inside and carve a theme-specific image into the pumpkin to really help it stand out.

  1. Floral Arrangements

A hollowed out pumpkin is the perfect neutral backdrop for any of your fall decor ideas, and one of the most simple is to turn it into a flower vase! Hollow out the inside but leave the sides of the pumpkin intact, and then add seasonal blooms like mums, hydrangeas and adorn the floral arrangements with seasonal touches like holly or hypericum berries and other forms of greenery to give it a touch of contrast.

  1. Escort Card Tables

In addition to the decorative potential of large pumpkins, the smaller pumpkins and gourds also have a role to play in your wedding preparations. Small pumpkins function beautifully as escort cards, so start by first painting them in a color that matches your theme or color scheme, and then attach small escort cards to each pumpkin to give your reception a unique seasonal twist on the ordinary.

  1. Pumpkin Patch Photo Area

Photo booths and pre-staged photo areas are all the rage in contemporary wedding planning, and nothing says fall quite like a pumpkin patch. Invest in a few larger pumpkins for your guests to sit on, and adorn the area with bits of fall greenery, flowers and other accents to create a warm and inviting space your guests will love to take their photos in front of.

  1. Lace Pumpkins

One of the easiest crafting techniques to really help your pumpkin decor standout comes through the use of lace and a bit of spray paint. Head to a craft store and pick out a lace design that you love, and wrap it around the entirety of the pumpkin. Spray paint over the lace in a color of your choice and let dry, and you will have a dazzling new addition to your ceremony or reception tables.
