Colors to Keep The Bridesmaids Cool and Chic

Colors to Keep The Bridesmaids Cool and Chic

As I am writing this, it’s 80 degrees in New York. Saying “Summer’s almost here” is kind of like saying “I hear we’re expecting rain” to someone holding a soaked newspaper over their head as they run for cover. Summer officially begins June 21st, and June in the most popular month of the year for weddings. It makes one wonder if wedding dresses are white because long ago a Bride yelled, “If I’m going out there in this heat, it’s going to be in something that breathes!” And since Bridesmaids usually don’t dress in the same pure white as the Bride, here are some colors that go well in the summer heat.

  1. Green

There’s no better place to start than the color of temperate nature. Moss green is earthly and invites a sense of warmth. Lime compliments summer with vibrancy and emerald gives off a regal tone in summer’s green backdrop. You may want to consider adorning the bouquets with blue or purple –or varying shades of those, depending on the particular green to create contrast.

2. Purple

The classic color of nobility makes for a stunning picture amongst a colorful summer sunset. Violet may never go out of style (for good reason) and dark purple remains a fixture color for bridesmaids (it contrasts with wedding gown white quite well). Lighter shades such as lavender are coming into style as well. If you are going pursue the color of queens, you may want to choose dresses that flow, with a hemline that goes to the knees or lower thigh to offset this darker shade on hot summer days.

  1. A Variety of Lighter Tones

If you are looking to stave off the summer heat and still want the bridal party to wear colors that complement the bride, lighter shades such as rose, blush, turquoise and aquamarine are aesthetically pleasing while not absorbing so much of the sun. Experiment and see which shade works best for you bridal party, different complexions compliment different hues.
